Artist’s
Statement
My carved and painted wood vignettes serve as vehicles for the exploration of social, political and environmental themes. I seek to address the hypocrisy, ambivalence, contradiction and hubris of events that touch our lives.
The scenes convey both humor and pathos, thus reflecting the yin/yang of life. Some pieces are conceived as visual puns; some examine our use of language in a literal sense, conjuring up some rather absurd imagery, but they are intended to resonate on more than one level. To the casual observer, the works appear amusing and toy like; but closer examination reveals an underlying comment on some aspect of the human condition. |
